C3G Receives $4.6 million in Funding from the Canadian Foundation for Innovation (CFI) and partner organizations

Enabling breakthroughs in biomedical and life science research

Guillaume Bourque, Director of the Canadian Centre for Computational Genomics (C3G) and professor in the Department of Human Genetics at McGill University, received $4.6 million total in funding to support technology development and the implementation of new services and management activities for C3G. The project team also includes researchers from the Université Laval and Université de Sherbrooke.

As a national platform, C3G provides services in genomic data analysis, software development, and data management. Since its establishment as a national core facility in 2015, C3G has supported more than 900 projects from over 450 research groups across every Canadian province and 28 other countries.

As genomic initiatives expand nationwide in areas including precision health, pandemic preparedness, and the environment, data processing and interpretation have become major limiting factors for discovery and innovation. This CFI investment will enable C3G to better meet the needs of projects across the life sciences by bolstering advanced analytics capabilities, including machine learning, data management, and secure computing services.

“We launched C3G more than 10 years ago, and our team has been growing ever since. This award is especially meaningful to us, as it confirms our status as a national core facility and strengthens our ability to support a diverse community of users across Canada and internationally”.
